Hydrate. Nourish. Moisturise.
I’m not someone who believes that you need to use the most expensive products for the best results. Or that you need a cabinet overflowing with lotions and potions to achieve your skincare goals. I’ve spent the last few years doing my best to minimise what I use and create a skincare routine that I can easily maintain. If skincare is on your list of things to accomplish this year I thought I’d share a few things that I’ve learnt.
Hydration is key. Increasing your water intake helps with a variety of issues. Last year I joined the Sauce Magazine team in their challenge to drink 2.5L of water, everyday for five days. The difference in how I felt and looked was amazing. I try to do this challenge once a month now, but have upped my water intake outside of the challenge. If you struggle to drink water, get creative and add some fruit or herbs like mint to it. During the challenge I use the Daily Water app to monitor my intake and keep on track.
Nourishing your skin from the inside out, be it with the food you eat, supplements or collagen. I became intrigued about collagen over a year ago when I heard Jeannette Ogden from Shut The Kale Up talking about it. I was curious but also skeptical until I bought and tried the Nutra Organics Collagen Beauty. I’m on to my fourth bottle now, and take it everyday. I’ve reviewed the Nutra Organics Collagen here. I think it’s important to consider what you are putting into your body to understand what is happening on the surface.
As I said in the beginning I don’t think it’s about having the most expensive products, or an entire range. What will see the best results, in my opinion, is being consistent with what you use. Having the most expensive products but only remembering to use them once a week is not going to yield the results you want. Before throwing out what you having and buying what’s on trend, try getting into the habit of one skincare step. That might be applying eye cream twice a day (or once to start off with), or remembering to wear sunscreen. A few years ago I began developing the basis of my skincare routine by getting into the habit of applying the Savar Rosehip Ultra Brightening Serum. Now, three years later I still do it. That not only speaks to the quality and effectiveness of the product, but also the way its application has become ingrained into my daily routine.
So, my suggestions before you splurge on new skincare would be to increase your water intake, consider what you’re putting into your body and focus on using one product consistently for the next month. And if you’re on the look for some collagen, I can’t recommend the Nutra Organics Collagen Beauty more. For skincare products, I have not strayed from the Savar Skincare range in over three years and I think that says something in this climate of constant change, marketing and lists of current trends and products.
I have found small, consistent steps to be the most effective way to achieve long lasting results.
